NURS 2400: Community Health

Class Program
Credits 3
The purpose of this course is to introduce learners to community health nursing, health promotion, and disease prevention across the lifespan. Students expand their knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) by applying clinical judgment and evidence-based practice to individuals, families, and populations within community settings. Immersive learning experiences encourage exploration of diverse populations and engagement with community health programs and resources designed to address unique and evolving needs. The course examines historical and contemporary societal factors that shape individual and group identity, including the influences of race, class, and gender on health outcomes. Students analyze how complex social structures and systems contribute to dynamics of power, privilege, oppression, and opportunity within healthcare and community contexts. Emphasis is placed on ethical practice, cultural humility, health equity, and the application of principles of rights, access, equity, and autonomous participation to inform past, current, and future social justice actions in community health nursing practice. The student must successfully complete this course with a C+ to meet program requirements for graduation. Internet assignments are required in the course.
