The Optical Technology AAS program prepares students for a career in the field of optics. Students will take classes that focus on the areas of fiber optics, optical systems, metrology, fabrication, lasers, ray optics, and photonics. Students will learn how to utilize equipment and carry out procedures that can lead to immediate job placement. Optical technologists are needed by companies and governmental agencies that are critically involved in our nation's defense and security. This degree is designed for students who are interested in entering the field of optics at the ground level or those who need to obtain more education to advance their careers. Students who wish to transfer to a 4-year institution should consult their advisor to plan the appropriate courses.
This is a jointly registered program with Monroe Community College with a number credits required to take through MCC.
Graduates should be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability to test products using optical systems and geometrical optics procedures.
- Perform basic and advanced optical manufacturing techniques for modern precision optical components.
- Demonstrate and understanding and ability to carry out advanced metrology techniques for testing both optical systems and individual optical components.
- Demonstrate an understanding to evaluate electro-optic configurations and measurements.
Intended as a guide for academic planning. It need not be followed exactly or completed in four semesters.
The following courses will be taken through Monroe Community College:
- OPT 101
- OPT 131
