The Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) microcredential prepares individuals to work effectively in the behavioral health field. The key components of the program include explaining a wide range of mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, schizophrenia, and personality disorders to include the identification of  symptoms, causes, and treatment approaches for these conditions. Additionally, graduates will implement essential interpersonal skills to support clients, such as active listening, empathy, emotional support, crisis intervention techniques and strategies for de-escalating high-stress situations.

At the core of the program will be an emphasis on prioritizing ethical standards, confidentiality, and maintaining professional boundaries in the workplace while implementing effective communication and teamwork skills with healthcare providers, clients, and families. The program includes a strong focus on building cultural competence when working with diverse populations.

Behavioral Health Aides (BHAs) work in a variety of settings where mental health and substance abuse treatment and support are needed. Some common places where they are employed include: Mental Health Clinics, Hospitals and Psychiatric Facilities, Substance Abuse Treatment Centers, Residential Treatment Facilities, Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities, Schools, Correctional Facilities,, and Home Health Agencies.  In all these settings, Behavioral Health Aides work under the supervision of licensed professionals, such as therapists, counselors, or psychiatrists, and help improve the overall mental health and wellbeing of clients.
